Columbarium & Memorial Garden

Opened on 2 November, 2001

St Patrick's Columbarium and Memorial Garden have been built to provide a permanent resting place for parishioners and their families who have chosen to be cremated.

This area is situated within a gated area on the western side of St Patrick s Church. The niches are set in a walled area within a tranquil and peaceful Garden setting. The Columbarium and Memorial Garden came to fruition through the foresight and generosity of both past and present parishioners along with the support of our then parish priest, Fr. Dan Grundy. Our thanks go especially to Mary and Barry McGrath, Paul and Sharon Baxter, Peter Murfitt and the late Don Bravery.

The Columbarium was officially dedicated and opened on 2 November, 2001 by the Very Reverend Fr Bernard Gallagher. Parishioners who may be interested in acquiring a niche are able to choose single, double or the larger triple size. These niches and the attached plaque have been kept at a very generous cost as a service to our parish families. As well as the niches parishioners are offered the opportunity to place a memorial plaque on the wall in remembrance of loved ones buried or interred elsewhere.

Niches may be reserved at any time prior to an interment with many parishioners choosing to purchase several years ahead. To purchase or to reserve a niche, families are asked to contact the Parish Office who in turn will put you in touch with a Columbarium Committee member.

Once the ashes of our loved ones have been interred, families are welcome to visit the Garden at any time. Loved ones interred in St Patrick's Columbarium are remembered in the Prayers of the Faithful at each Sunday Mass. The columbarium and garden is maintained in a clean and dignified condition by members of our parish community.

"Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them."

St Patrick’s Parish Columbarium, has niches available as a single, double or treble niche.

Cost of these niches are :

  • $400 for a single niche,
  • $800 for a double niche and
  • $1,200 for a treble niche.

If you wish to view the Columbarium please contact the Parish Secretary on 07 3287 2282.

Weekly Reflection

Today’s reading from the Gospel of John is part of Jesus’ discourse at the Last Supper. Recall
that John tells the story of Jesus’ Last Supper differently from the other Evangelists. In John’s
Gospel, the Last Supper begins with Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. In these chapters of John’s
Gospel, Jesus instructs his disciples about the importance of following his example of love and
service, about the gift they will receive when Jesus sends them the Holy Spirit, and about their
relationship with Jesus and with the world. The Last Supper discourse concludes with Jesus’
prayer for his disciples.
Today’s Gospel reading is taken from middle of the Last Supper discourse. Jesus speaks about
his relationship to his disciples. In his metaphor of the vine and the branches, Jesus is referencing
the Hebrew Scriptures. In the Hebrew Scriptures, Israel is the vineyard, and Yahweh himself tends
the vineyard. In this passage, Jesus teaches his disciples that his relationship with them will not
end after his death; he will remain with them always. This unity between Jesus and his disciples
is the basis for their ability to continue to do the work that he began. Similarly, Jesus’ presence
with us through the Gift of the Holy Spirit enables us to continue the work of love and reconciliation
that he began.
Jesus also teaches his disciples about the importance of the words he has taught to them. Just
as Jesus will remain in the disciples, so too will his words. We come to know Jesus through the
Scriptures, the living Word of God. Our commitment to be Christ’s disciples is sustained through
God’s Word. This commitment is also strengthened by our life of prayer and nourished by the
Eucharist. Through the Eucharist, Jesus dwells in us, remains with us, and transforms us so that
we might bear fruit in his name.
We observe many people who act in ways that show their commitment to serve their neighbour.
Christians and non-Christians feed the hungry, care for the sick, shelter the homeless, and give
alms to the poor. These actions become acts of Christian discipleship when they are motivated
by our relationship with Jesus. Whatever the immediate results, Jesus promises us that these
actions will bear fruit when we undertake them in his name.

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy As a group we gather in the MacKillop Room, listen to the gospel, sing the Alleluia and discuss what it all means for us as followers of Jesus in 2015. We usually respond to the word in a number of ways- using drama, mediation, song, drawing and creating in a meaningful way. We conclude with Prayers of the Faithful, often sharing our own prayers from the heart with each other. We often receive more spiritual wisdom from the children than that from a lot of adults!!
